A glimpse into the glamorous world of our amazing make-up artist, Katy Nixon!

You may have seen her name mentioned on our blog before but if not, we’d like to introduce you to our amazing make-up artist Katy Nixon! She helps to add those finishing touches that transform our location shots from very pretty to absolutely stunning! We’ve asked her to tell us abit more about herself and we’re very honoured to have the opportunity to share with you a little insight into her glamorous world…
I have been a make-up artist since 2003, but have been around fashion from an early age, as it is in my family so I was lucky enough to do work experience on editorial photo shoots and help backstage at Fashion Week. It was after assisting at that early age that I knew I wanted to be a fashion make-up artist and finally found an outlet to combine my two biggest passions art and fashion. I would always look through the glossy fashion magazines and see all the big campaigns. I would really want to be a part of them and just knew there was nothing else I wanted to do.
My favourite thing about being a make-up artist is making people feel good and confident about themselves and knowing that I have made them look their best is very rewarding. But of course the travel is great and seeing lots of amazing locations. Also doing something different all the time is great, as sometimes when you’re a creative you can get bored easily and I enjoy not falling into a routine all the time.
My most glamorous client (apart from jones + jones, of course!) is Louis Vuitton. Working amongst such amazing expensive couture garments is a major perk and gets me really excited. Although most people would expect my celebrity work to be more glamourous, I always prefer the buzz at Fashion Week and the satisfaction a great shot at an editorial can bring. However being flown to L.A for the Oscars with one of my celebrity clients was also pretty glamourous!
My top make-up tip for S/S 2012 is keep it really light and fresh, change your smoky eye to something more nude and opt for a brighter colour on the lip for a younger more girly look.
Highlighters are great at this time of year and give the skin that gorgeous dewy glow that we always see on the red carpet.
My favourite jones + jones dress is the Florence Dress because it is super feminine but edgy at the same time and I love the peach and coral colours…
If I had to choose just one beauty product to pair with such a gorgeous outfit, it would be a good bronzer nothing looks better with coral than sun-kissed skin.
My one piece of advice for any aspiring make-up artists is to never say no to anything, you never know who you are going to meet along the way!

We were so excited to be part of the amazing DCU Fashion Show for the second year running last Tuesday! The event, sponsored by Diet Coke amongst others, showcased modelling and design talent from across Ireland as well as collections from top high street brands ranging from Zara to H&M, Jack & Jones to jones + jones!…
The theme of the show was ‘High Tech Heritage’, which chairperson of DCU Style Society, Susan Gorman, described as a celebration of ’…our fast-changing, internet and media rich world merged with the rebirth of vintage clothing’. From the sparkling sequins on the Julia Dress to the edgy structuring of the Nicky Dress, the full and flirty forties and fifties inspired skirts to the on-trend textural florals, we think that the gorgeous selection of garments showcased from our S/S 2012 collection perfectly encapsulated the theme alongside the projections and social media used.
A huge thank you to all of the stunning models and a special thank you to Aoife Fitzgerald and our fantastic Concession Managers in Dublin, Aimee Harden and Zara Andrews! My favourite thing about blogging is… it allows anyone no matter what fashion background they’re from to have an opinion in such a huge industry.
Three words that describe my style are… eclectic creative experimental
If I had a pair of dazzling Cinderella Rocked Her Fella Swarovski Court Shoes I would pair them with… the gorgeous jones + jones Julia dress for Ladies’ Day at Aintree Races!
I wanted to create a look inspired by Blair Waldorf meets Carrie Bradshaw. Jones and Jones dresses are statement pieces in themselves so its easy to accessorise them. I chose nude shades to emphasise the colours in the dress and bring out the sparkle in the shoes. I love the headband as it helps to bring together a girly yet glamorous outfit without trying too hard.
